Urban growth in Katipunan is plainly an integral fraction of the total provincial development in Zamboanga del Norte. The existing urban land use of the municipality is 306 hectares. Residential area accounted for the largest urban land use at 33%, followed by the institutional area (25%) and the roads (1.4%).  Other urban land uses that devotes less that 1% of the urban uses are the municipality’s commercial area, industrial area, open spaces including the municipal plaza and recreational areas (Table 4) and (Map 19).
