In the observance of this year’s Fire Prevention Month, the Katipunan Municipal Fire Station has scheduled various activities to be conducted for the whole month of March. This nationwide program is done annually by virtue of Presidential Proclamation No. 115-A, issued on November 17, 1966, by then President Ferdinand E. Marcos.

Guided with their mandate on preventing and suppressing all kinds of destructive fires, investigate its causes, enforce fire-related laws and provide emergency medical and rescue services, the Bureau of Fire Protection is giving its utmost effort to impart knowledge to the public and spread awareness about fire safety as everybody’s concern.

With the theme: “Ligtas na Pilipinas Ating Kamtin, Bawat Pamilya ay Sanayin, Kaalaman sa Sunog ay Palawakin.”, the Katipunan Municipal Fire Station headed by INSP Bryan T. Ocena, is one with all the Fire Stations nationwide in initiating efforts to lessen the number of fire-related cases as well as fire-related injuries or fatalities as it observes the Fire Prevention Month.

The series of activities began with a Unity Parade of Fire Safety Advocates and Brigade participated in by all fire safety advocates, fire brigades, fire volunteer organizations and other private and government entities on March 1, 2019. It was also accompanied by a simultaneous blowing of horns.

The parade was followed by a drawing contest for elementary pupils (Grades 1-6) and poster-making contest for junior and senior high school students (Grades 7-12).

A planning workshop of the Community Fire Protection Plan (CFPP), Organizing of Community Fire Auxiliary Groups (CFAG) for targeted barangays and Fire Safety Campaigns in Barangays such as the conduct of Fire Truck Visibility and distribution of Fire Safety Information Materials to barangays not declared targets for CFPP, as well as attendance and public address during church mass, flag ceremonies of schools and government offices and other public gatherings were set for the whole month.

Included in the abovementioned activities is a three-day activity dubbed as “Open House” is scheduled from March 6-8, 2019 where opening of every fire station to the public especially to the elementary and secondary school students will be done.

On March 31,2019 a culminating activity on simultaneous fire drill will be conducted at Barangay San Antonio, Katipunan, Zamboanga del Norte in compliance to the new culture of the BFP wherein it is directed to execute Nationwide Simultaneous Fire Drill at its selected barangay or establishment within their area of responsibility. The fire drill shall conform with the new procedures formulated under Oplan Ligtas na Pamayanan.
