The Municipality of Katipunan recently unfolded another page of history when it commemorated its 105th Founding Anniversary with the theme: “Achieving Sustainable Development Through Concerted Efforts” in a 5-day series of activities from January 29 to February 2, 2019 held within the vicinity of the Municipal Government Complex.

The 5-day-long celebration began with an opening parade participated in by the Local Government Unit officials and employees, together with the different agencies, schools and the general public.

The said opening activity was accompanied by a blood-letting activity in cooperation with the Philippine Red Cross together with the Municipal Health Office. An inspirational message was given by Atty. Rodolfo M. Guimabarda, Jr. as guest of honor of the opening program.

Hon. Mayor Patchito T. Eguia formally opened the 105th Araw ng Katipunan followed by cutting of ribbon for the opening of the Agro-Trade Fair which ran for the whole duration of the celebration. Drum Corps Exhibition and Cheer Leading Competition also highlighted the opening day and “Huni ug Awit: Indak sa Kaniadtong Panahon” in the evening of the same day.

Aside from the Agro-Trade Fair, a Variety Show also became a highlight on the second day of the celebration which was participated in by the LGU, different schools and other agencies where various performances showcasing the variety of talents of the Katipuneros.

Adding more excitement to the 5-day celebration was the search for Bb. Katipunan 2019 with ten (10) lovely candidates representing different agencies vying for the title. Ms. Faith B. Genobaten of Katipunan National High School won the crown with Ms. Jane Britney F. Amodia of DepEd Katipunan II and Ms. Sheriffa P. Duarong of the Association of Barangay Councils bagged the 1st and 2nd Runner-up, respectively.

On the day of its 105th year, a commemorative mass was offered as thanksgiving. Hon. Senator Sherwin “Win” T. Gatchalian graced the anniversary program being the guest speaker and emphasized that Katipunan has grown a lot in all aspects from the last time he visited the Municipality in the year 2014 during its centennial celebration. He also expressed his gratitude to the Katipuneros for inviting him over to join the celebration.

The much-awaited highlight of the closing day is the jam-packed free concert of the Brownman Revival Band who came all the way from Manila to give Katipunan and its neighboring municipalities an all-out reggae jamming experience. The said free concert was sponsored by Zamboanga del Norte 1st District Representative, Hon. Seth Frederick “Bullet” P. Jalosjos with an all-out support of Hon. Patchito T. Eguia.

As Katipunan is a century and five years stronger now, it continues its vision to transform the municipality into an agro-tourism community. With this, Katipunan aims to achieve sustainable development through collaborative efforts of the locals and other concerned agencies.
