Tuberculosis (TB) is a potentially serious infectious disease that mainly affects your lungs. The bacteria that cause tuberculosis are spread from one person to another through tiny droplets released into the air via coughs and sneezes.
In line with the call of the government to end Tuberculosis, the TB DOTS Center of the Municipality of Katipunan intensified its case detection of the disease. With war on drugs or “tokhang” is very sensational nowadays the RHU Staff was using that strategy to find the missing TB patients and called that strategy as OPLAN: TB Tokhang. RHU personnel then go to the Barangay with high incidence rate of Tuberculosis and do contact tracing of the family members of patient who was previously treated.
The initiative strategy of the municipal TB DOTS Center then caught the attention of the National Tuberculosis Program (NTP) at the Central Office of the Department of Health. Last August 14, 2018 during the National Consultation and Planning for NTP held at Citadines Millennium Ortigas in Metro Manila, OPLAN: TB Tokhang strategy received a recognition as the Best in Action Photo in the entire Philippines.
The recognition is dedicated to all the hardworking health workers of the RHU Katipunan and of course to the ever supportive Municipal Local Government Unit headed by the our Local Chief Executive Hon. Patchito T. Eguia.
“Lets all work hand in hand to have a TB Free Katipunan!!!”
