The Doctors to the Barrios (DTTB) program was conceptualized by the Department Of Health in 1993 to address the lack of doctors practicing in rural communities in the Philippines. These young doctors then are deployed to various geographically isolated and disadvantaged areas in the Philippines to work in primary care and public health. Our municipality is lucky enough to be provided with a doctor by the DOH under the said program. On February 17, 2020, Hon. Patchito T. Eguia, the Local Chief Executive, formally introduced to the personnel of the Local Government Unit of Katipunan, right after the flag raising ceremony, the new doctor in the person of  Dr. Kei Ruud A. Piperno.

Dr.  Piperno, is a 28 year-old Fil-Italian doctor from Quezon City, a graduate from the University of the Philippines College of Medicine in year 2018 and a passer of the Philippine Medical Boards on the same year. He had worked as Ward/ER Physician at St. Camillus Medical Center, Pasig City, Metro Manila, prior to his assignment to Katipunan.

As DTTB of  this municipality,  Dr. Piperno acts as the Municipal Health Officer and  is responsible for providing heath care services and develop local health systems/programs/projects based on the priority needs of the locality under the Doctors to the Barrios Program. He is set to conduct regular medical consultations and referral of serious cases to appropriate facility as well as participate in the different LGU committees and perform other related functions as may be assigned by the DOH.  The many years of longing for a doctor by the Katipuneros  has been answered by the presence of Dr. Kei who has delivered his profession efficiently and effectively. We envision that Dr. Kei’s  stay in Katipunan would pave the way to a better  and a healthier community.
